DEVELPOPMENT

OUR FUTURE AT KEPPEL BAY SAILING CLUB

THE CLUBHOUSE

Since its beginnings in 1957, Keppel Bay Sailing Club has been built on a passion for sailing, community connection, and creating a welcoming place for locals and visitors to gather. What started as a small group of dedicated sailors has grown into one of the Capricorn Coast’s most recognised community venues — and we continue to look to the future as we evolve and improve our facilities for generations to come.

In November 2024, the Club proudly opened the doors to its brand-new clubhouse on the Yeppoon foreshore. This modern, purpose-built venue marks a significant milestone in the Club’s history and strengthens KBSC’s role as both the sailing hub of the Capricorn Coast and a vibrant social and function destination for the community.

Designed with the future in mind, the new three-storey facility brings together world-class sailing infrastructure with welcoming hospitality spaces, allowing the Club to support everything from local sailing programs and major regattas to weddings, corporate events, and community celebrations.

With panoramic views across Keppel Bay and the surrounding islands, the clubhouse has quickly become a place where locals and visitors alike can gather — whether for a morning coffee by the water, a relaxed meal with friends, or a special event overlooking the ocean.

As a not-for-profit organisation, everything we do is guided by our commitment to supporting our members, growing the sport of sailing, and creating spaces that bring our community together. The redevelopment ensures that Keppel Bay Sailing Club will continue to serve the Capricorn Coast for many decades to come.

THE SPINNAKER

We are excited to share that The Spinnaker is undergoing a planned, staged redevelopment from April to early November 2026, designed to enhance your overall experience and ensure our venue continues to evolve for the future.

This project will be completed in carefully managed stages, with clear communication provided along the way. This staged approach allows us to keep key services operating while delivering significant improvements to the gaming, café, amenities and lift facilities. While some areas will temporarily close during certain periods, The Spinnaker will remain open and operational throughout the redevelopment.

We will regularly update members on confirmed completion dates, entry and exit changes, temporary closures and which areas remain open during each stage.

At times, members and guests may need to walk around certain work areas to access facilities. We appreciate your patience during this time and will continue working to make access as easy as possible and reduce these distances as construction progresses.

This is a temporary disruption for a long-term improvement and we couldn’t be more excited about what’s ahead for our venue and our community.

STAGE 1

Stage 1 of the redevelopment has now been successfully completed and introduced two exciting new additions to the venue.

This stage saw the completion of our new reception area, creating a welcoming entry point for members and guests, along with the development of a secure kids’ playground. The new playground allows families to relax and enjoy the venue while children have a safe and dedicated space to play, making Spinnaker an even more family-friendly destination.

STAGE 2A

Café Redevelopment and Lift Demolition

The next stage of works will begin in the café area later in April, the current space will undergo demolition and redevelopment. Once complete, the new café will feature a more welcoming and modern look, with comfortable areas designed for members and guests to sit down, relax and take a moment while enjoying a coffee or light bite. During this time, the café will temporarily relocate to the Bistro, along with Keno services, so members and guests can continue enjoying these services while improvements are underway.

This stage will include the demolition of the existing lift and installation of a brand-new lift, which is expected to take approximately six months to complete due to the extensive work involved.

STAGE 2A

Gaming Room Upgrades

The gaming room redevelopment will be completed in two stages to allow part of the area to remain operational during construction. Works will begin alongside the café redevelopment with the first half of the gaming room, followed by the second half in the next stage. During this period, a reduced number of gaming machines will remain available, ensuring the space continues to operate while improvements are completed. Once complete, the gaming room will be extended and upgraded, allowing for additional gaming machines and a more spacious layout. The refreshed design will create a more inviting and cosy atmosphere, improving comfort and flow throughout the space.

STAGE 2B

Next Stage – Kitchen & Bistro Redevelopment

The next stage of Stage 2 will focus on the dining area, including the kitchen and bistro. This redevelopment will give the bistro a complete facelift, transforming the space into a lighter, brighter and more appealing dining environment for members and guests to enjoy. During this phase, the kitchen and bistro will temporarily close for a period of time while redevelopment works are carried out. We understand this may impact normal operations, and we will provide members and guests with updates on the timeline and any temporary changes to services as soon as more details are confirmed. Our team will do their best to keep everyone informed and minimise disruption wherever possible.
